Level playing field

A level playing field is essential for fair competition within Europe and globally. EU regulatory and climate policies should provide equal operating conditions across sectors and Member States, without creating distortions within the Single Market or undermining the global competitiveness of European industry.

FFIF key message:
EU policies must safeguard a level playing field within the Single Market while ensuring the global competitiveness of European industry.

State aid

State aid can support strategic investments and accelerate industrial transformation where market failures exist. However, poorly targeted aid can distort competition and fragment the Single Market.

FFIF key message:
State aid must be limited to clearly identified market failures where it is an appropriate, necessary and proportionate policy instrument, while minimising distortions to competition. Any reform reform of the State aid framework should be evidence-based and take into account the implementation and impact of existing rules.

CBAM

The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is intended to address carbon leakage and support global climate ambition. By applying a carbon price to certain imports, it aims to ensure more equal competitive conditions between European and third-country producers. Effective implementation will require both thorough impact assessment and predictability, transparency and compatibility with international trade rules.
