LULUCF

LULUCF

The Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) framework is a central pillar of EU climate policy. Forests contribute to climate action both through carbon sequestration and by providing renewable raw materials that replace fossil-based alternatives. With coherent LULUCF policies that recognise the climate benefits of renewable, recyclable and carbon-storing materials, Europe can accelerate decarbonisation while strengthening its industrial base and global competitiveness.

FFIF key message:
LULUCF targets must be realistic, with climate policy focused on reducing fossil emissions, promoting renewable materials, and keeping the land-use sector separate from fossil emission targets.
