Nature values markets are developed to finance with private money nature conservation and restoration. Nature value markets can play an important role in the sustainability transition, provided that companies first minimise the biodiversity impacts of their own operations. To be credible and effective, nature value markets must be based on robust criteria, monitoring and genuine additionality, with measures targeted to the areas where they deliver the greatest biodiversity benefits.
FFIF key message:
The EU should promote voluntary and credible market mechanisms that recognise solutions that simultaneously support biodiversity, sustainable wood supply and the provision of other ecosystem services.
